The Normal Heart is a 2014 American television drama film directed by Ryan Murphy and written by Larry Kramer, based on his 1985 play of the same name. Liz Carr is memorable as an aridly witty, pioneering disabled doctor, dispensing brutal truths and frustrated fury from her electric wheelchair.Īlso excellent are Luke Norris as pressure-group president Bruce, whose cautious moderation so exasperates Ned and whose partner dies an unthinkably cruel death Danny Lee Wynter as “Southern bitch” Tommy, his acidity tempered by sweetness and Robert Bowman as Ned’s brother Ben, whose homophobia conflicts with deep sibling love and loyalty.
